I purchased? a new ignition cylinder (tumbler) from BMW and finally got it in. Yes!!!!! However it is still spinning. Do I need to do the screw procedure? I thought one of your post said it would not be necessary. Thanks

I was able to fix it twice now by removing the red plastic switch at the rear of the cylinder lock and spinning both the switch and the cylinder lock. It has worked for my twice now. Though, I would like to know if I do the mod with the screw against the cylinder lock if it will prevent it? from happening again.

Its my DIY fix for the issue. You can always buy another tumbler from the factory and? then you would not need the screw to hold everything in place :)

Write me if you are still having issues!?

I would remove the ignition on the "back" side of the steering column. and then you can "reset"? everything and start from scratch. Write me if you need clarification!

It sounds like the ignition switch in the back? is sticking, I would take a look, it's spring loaded and I could imagine it went bad. Good luck!

I believe? it should be a similar repair. Try using a larger diameter pin if you have one. Push it in and wiggle the key while pulling it out! Good Luck

PLEASE HELP!! I am having the same problem. The tumbler used to spin all the time when starting then yesterday I went to turn the car off and the key came out but the car continued to run.? The tumbler is stuck on the "ON" position. I tried to remove the tumbler with a paper clip but to no avail. I dont know if its because its stuck on the "on" position or its the tool I am using. I could really use some help here. Can I remove the tumbler if its stuck on the on position? Please help...

I'm having an issue "feeling" where the bobby pin is supposed to? go to be twisted. Also, am i supposed to jam the pin in where I believe it's supposed to go based off of the position of your video?

@Bmwdonny I removed the fuel pump fuse & let the engine starve for fuel til it ran out of gas. Your ignition sounds jammed. I removed the panel below the steering wheel & then looked for and removed the rust orange plastic cap w/ wiring on the end of the ignition. Watched this video "Locked \ jammed BMW ignition lock" to unjam ignition. My ignition spun after that. Then followed the second half of this video's instructions to make? it stop spinning. Thats what worked for me.

@millertimebmw I didn't understand why the screw is needed in the bottom of the tumbler. I have to unjam the lock from the back first, but if my key is spinning after I unjam it, do I need a new tumbler or can I? just? screw it in place so it doesn't spin? Is the screw used to be able to keep using a broken tumbler or do I need a new tumbler AND need to screw it in place? Thanks!!!!
